United Airlines reported a $200 million loss in the first quarter due to the grounding of Boeing’s 737 Max 9 planes following an incident on an Alaska Airlines flight. The airline, heavily dependent on Boeing planes, had the largest fleet of Max 9 jets. Apart from Boeing’s troubles, United also faced other incidents, causing CEO Scott Kirby to emphasize the airline’s focus on safety. Furthermore, United now expects fewer single-aisle jets from Boeing this year and has reached agreements to lease Airbus planes. The airline had an adjusted loss of $50 million in the quarter.
